(cba:news) Recent CBA targets ('Joe Patterson' via CBA News) [2026-09-10T19:00:19Z]

Hi CBAers,

We're trying now to closely track the high-luminosity probable 
supersofts in the night sky (QR And and V Sge).  They're elusive, 
because they have periods near 6, 8, 12, or 24 hours - so we have to 
disentangle them with LONG runs... longer than the 6-8 hrs one observer 
can manage.

The main stars in question are V Sge and QR And.  Both plenty bright. 
Gordon Myers has helped this period-finding search with runs from 
eastern and western Australia (Siding Spring and Perth).  But to nail 
the period over a long baseline, we still need more long runs from 
western Europe and western USA.

Unlike dwarf novae, these stars are always "high state".  But some of 
these high states show deep eclipses (about 1 mag), while others just 
flicker around.  To tell them apart, long runs are needed.
