(cba:news) QR And, DQ Her, V Sge ('Joe Patterson' via CBA News) [2026-08-24T13:01:05Z]

Hi CBAers,

David Cejudo has obtained long European runs on QR And and DQ Her in 
recent days, and it would be GREAT to couple them with long USA runs.  A 
third star that would greatly benefit from this two-continent approach 
is V Sagittae.  We've ignored the latter for a long time; it's basically 
a "supersoft", which we've given a lower priority to.  There's only a 
few of these guys in the sky - possibly because they burn themselves out 
so fast.  Or maybe for some other reason - for US to find out.  All 
THREE of these stars are now great AUG-SEP-OCT targets!... with long 
runs greatly favored because the ORBITAL light curves are of prime interest.

On moonless nights of good seeing, I'd also recommend V1500 Cyg.  I 
don't know what it's been doing lately, other than fading.  Maybe one of 
us could find out.

I apologize for leaving out good southern targets.  I haven't studied 
them recently - maybe one of you can remind me?

I've been spending much of my time recently on my "Big Apple Sky 
Calendar", which Columbia Astronomy carries... as well as "Pioneer 
Works", the art-and-science joint for which I primarily write it.  You 
guys know much more about the sky than the public for which I write it, 
and I'd greatly like opinions and suggestions from you!
