(cba:news) V1674 Her, mainly (Joe Patterson) [2025-04-12T14:38:06Z]
Hi CBAers,
I see that Geof Stone has re-visited V1674 Her after its emergence in 
the solar glare (briefly, until the full moon oasses)... and found the 
star at V=17.7 - within the range of many of our telescopes.  So it's 
back again on our menu of most-desired stars, and will likely
stay there for a few months.
The other star I want to commend, much brighter at 14.2, is AM CVn. 
Many of you know it, and we published a decent conference paper on it 
3-4 years ago (as well as several earlier main-journal papers).  As a 
reminder, the main photometric periods are 525.6 and 1051.2 and 1011.4 
seconds.  But the true orbital period is 1028 s, and that's what counts 
- the other guys are positive and negative superhump periods, which are, 
by their nature, not intrinsically stable.  You have to subtract the 
superhump guys to see the telltale 1028.7 s signal.  Our preliminary 
result is: the Porb is decreasing over the last 30 years... but we need 
2025-6 data to nail it down for sure.  Easy star to observe, and in 
prime observing season now.
