(cba:news) V1674 Her, mainly (Joe Patterson) [2025-04-12T14:38:06Z]
Hi CBAers,
I see that Geof Stone has re-visited V1674 Her after its emergence in
the solar glare (briefly, until the full moon oasses)... and found the
star at V=17.7 - within the range of many of our telescopes. So it's
back again on our menu of most-desired stars, and will likely
stay there for a few months.
The other star I want to commend, much brighter at 14.2, is AM CVn.
Many of you know it, and we published a decent conference paper on it
3-4 years ago (as well as several earlier main-journal papers). As a
reminder, the main photometric periods are 525.6 and 1051.2 and 1011.4
seconds. But the true orbital period is 1028 s, and that's what counts
- the other guys are positive and negative superhump periods, which are,
by their nature, not intrinsically stable. You have to subtract the
superhump guys to see the telltale 1028.7 s signal. Our preliminary
result is: the Porb is decreasing over the last 30 years... but we need
2025-6 data to nail it down for sure. Easy star to observe, and in
prime observing season now.
More on other stars soon.
