(cba:news) Fwd: (cba:chat) KIS J192651.94+503301.7: likely new WZ Sge type dwarf nova (Joe Patterson) [2018-09-29T12:44:45Z]

Hi CBAers,

This message from Tonny suggests an interesting new target for us, with a friendly northern position.  It's also true, though, that MAXI J1820+070 has just experienced a very rapid change in the X-ray spectrum - which underlines the importance of continuing coverage of that star.  Superhumps, or something very like superhumps, still raging in this 17-hour binary.

Dear colleagues,

I have just concluded the analysis of my 2018, Sep 27/28 and Sep 28/29 unfiltered CCD photometry sessions of KIS J192651.94+503301.7. Observations were made at CBA Extremadura Observatory,  using a 0.40-m f/5.1 telescope and SX-46 CCD camera, under very clear skies but with strong moonlight.

The resulting light curve clearly reveals the presence of superhump-like modulations with an amplitude of 0.09 mag. There’s a hint of secondary humps, probably early superhumps and hence indicating that this is likely a new WZ Sge type dwarf nova. A preliminary period analysis using the ANOVA, Lomb-Scargle and PDM methods (Peranso), yields a combined superhump period of 0.0581 +/- 0.0004d.  The object was at mag 12.53 (CV) on Sep 28th.

Follow-up observations of this bright target are strongly encouraged.

Observations will be sent to AAVSO, CBA and VSNET for further analysis.

Best regards
Tonny
