(cba:news) Fwd: YZ Cnc campaign (Joe Patterson) [2016-12-21T13:45:28Z]

Hi CBAers,

Let's get to work on this star - a natural for us. Although Christian's campaign is primarily directed towards the events surrounding a superoutburst, we have interest at other times too. So keep an eye on the developing light curve for signs of an upcoming super, but also obtain some long, dense nights of coverage with the usual time-series approach. We'd like to track orbital phase too, not just superhumps.

BTW CN Ori is another good target for long time-series. With its equatorial location, we might hope to get something like true 24-hour coverage. Many years ago, we got some great light curves out of CN Ori, but not quite enough to finish our study. Time to do it now.

Hi,

Gary's summary of what we're after is basically spot on. Just to add that what we'd ideally like to catch is the first outburst after a superoutburst, which requires us to identify a superoutburst more or less in real time. This also means we'll need to monitor for a little while, at least past one superoutburst and possibly longer, depending on whether or not we can trigger on that one.

I'd definitely encourage everybody to upload to the AAVSO in addition to notifying the group, since their light curve generator is an extremely useful tool for us to quickly see where we are.

Also, if anybody feels certain that an ongoing outburst is a super, a quick email to me would be great, just to make sure I don't miss it.

I will make sure to keep people up to date, i.e. I'll notify the group once we've triggered.

Thanks for your help!

Cheers,

Christian

Hi Martin,

Visual = the good old eyeball. There are still a few of us left who use it ;-)

The main task is to monitor YZ Cnc as closely as possible, as the team need to know when to trigger that important TOO (they are looking for a Superoutburst, and we know YZ Cnc will provide one). If you see it on the rise I would suggest you message this group immediately as well as reporting your data to the AAVSO (I guess Christian's team will look there first for regular updates) - whether your observation is filtered, unfiltered or eye-balled! At the moment it looks like YZ Cnc is fading from outburst.

Good luck,

Gary

Hi Gary, just checking: Visual = unfiltered?

Thanks,
